About Me

Paula Kaufman: "Shwei, shwei Arabic" I often say, (pronounced shwai), meaning, "I only know a little Arabic." This reality deeply underscores my place here as a mere visitor. I know little about the nuances of life in Palestine, known as Falasteen here, or, the West Bank by some of the world. To know details you would have to be able to speak Arabic--and you would have had to have lived here. For generations. I am only here for two months. I am volunteering with a Canadian non-profit group called Project Hope, teaching English to Palestinian children and adults in the city of Nablus. This is a blog about people and places, about laughter and teaching in a new country. It is about a part of the world that is often misunderstood, by myself included. This blog hopes to illuminate truth through my daily encounters teaching, and through photographs. Take from this blog what you will. Enjoy. Ponder.
